Help with LED globe colour

In a new contemporary house is it best to go with warm white 3000k or natural white 4000k LED colour temperature. Is warm white bright enough for kitchens & bathrooms?

Hi Diana, for a contemporary residential project we would opt for a warm white 3k colour temperature throughout, giving a softer more homely feel. The "brightness" of the areas in question will depend on the output of the LED luminaire (rather than the colour temperature) measured in "lumens" . There a plenty of options eg 8watts, 10w, 12w, 16w etc, so if you are unsure select a luminaire with a slightly higher output which has the ability to dim giving you control and flexibility of your environment.

Definitely go with warm white, but also look out for the colour rendering index (CRI), which is a measure of how true to life colours appear, separate to the colour temperature.

Most CFL globes are a good example of poor CRI (around 80) even though they are usually 2700K, the light usually looks slightly too orange.

High CRI (over 90) LEDs can be more expensive, but given that they last for 20 years, I very much think it is worth it.
