There's no escaping the fact that bi-fold doors are becoming ever more popular with people looking for a garden room or home extension. Are they here to stay, or is it a passing trend?

Yes, bi-fold doors will stand the test of time.
No, traditional doors will come back in a big way.
Maybe there's room for all types of door?

    Hello,

We use bi-folding doors in a lot of our kitchens as clients cannot resist one when they see it. They can be very useful within a kitchen or any room as below:

As visualisers, we get to work on a wide variety of interesting and creative ways of combining interior and exterior space. We need to be as open-minded as possible when it comes to defining those boundaries.

I do like them, but love French doors more!

Fantastic for summer but generally unused unless hot sunny days

All door styles have their place; it depends purely upon the requirements of the home.

Bi-folds offer flexibility on a scale that French doors aren't able to match, whereas a 1.8m French set will have more visible glass than a 1.8m bi-fold.

Both have their strengths and limitations. To be on the safe side, spoil yourself and get a set of each!

It really depends on the building and your needs. There are definitely pros and cons for any style of door. It really is all about what works best for you and the building.

Our Clients are equally split between bifold doors (as one of our installations below) and patio sliding doors - it seems to be very much a personal choice, coming down in the end to sight lines i.e. how much glass compared to frame they want.......

Aluminium bifolds are by far better than their uPVC cousins

It is personal choice - and it comes down to what a customer is looking to achieve from their project. The comment above about only getting properly used in summer is complete valid, as too is the overall size of the doors, where they are located on the house, what the view is like out of the property...indeed there is so much to consider we wrote and entire blog on the subject.

At 1st Folding Sliding Door's we believe that aluminium is an ideal material as it’s light, robust and stable with slim profile sections to minimise the visible framework and maximise the glass area

We have often used bi-fold doors or sliding panels to integrate the interior and exterior spaces. Care should be taken that the integration is followed through with careful consideration of decoration, materials, garden landscaping etc in both areas to ensure harmonious result

I think bifold doors are great and with the future smart homes electric powered bifold doors would take them to the next step
