What to do in this tiny space?

We just got brand new hardwoods(yay)! I have this empty area in my pantry that I don't know what to do with. Previously, I had a couple baskets where we stored shoes. It always ends up messy and piled up. Any other ideas or ways to better organize?

    Definitely a shoe rack or shoe cubby.

    I would add another shelf and make all the baskets match on the lower shelves and then some large baskets on the floor for storage. Will look nice and very easy to achieve. I have made a quick picture for you here. All the best with it. Carmen
