Hi, Will someone be able to give a rough estimate of a typical backsplash installation excluding material. Area: 41 sq.ft. Backsplash: Tile/Glass Mosaic costing $13/sq.ft Total Material Cost (including 10% wastage) = $587 What would the installation cost be per sq.ft.? Thank You.
It's a 2 half day job, minimum. A small job like that eats up as much time as a large job. It's not about the square footage. It's about the time. I'd expect labor to start at about $1200 for any backsplash job. And go up from there depending on complexity.
Actually most contractors and tile manufacturers can and will give you a price per sq/ft installed. As a practicing architect we will often ask our tile reps what the installed cost per square foot is. A $13 square foot tile is a mid range tile in my opinion and I would guess it would probably be high twenties to low thirties in cost per sq/ft installed. I think Sophie's estimate of $1200 is pretty good. Shouldn't cost more.
Without the cost of the tile figured in, you will pay about $20-$30/Sf for installation. Small jobs like a backsplash require a lot of time and are more complex than laying tile on a floor.
