Modernizing Exterior
hey everyone! Some recent hail damage is leading to a lot of exterior repairs to our home. Now that I've chilled out a bit after meeting with insurance adjusters and roofers, siders ect. I'm realizing that I have options moving forward and honestly, I'm a bit excited!!!!!!
This is our home.... it will be reroofed, the front and side resided (if siding not available the whole house will be done and I'll change color to gray - if not it will stay this very light beige) garage door and all trim painted.
ive hated those shutters since day one. So now is my change to have them removed and put nothing up or select another option. There's some super cool very modern options but are just too spendy. So I'm thinking of going without. Then I'm wondering about paint choice. Any sugggestions for changing up the whole trim and/or white garage door that would give it a clean fresh modern look???? I'm not opposed to painting that brick section either.
im messing in photoshop with options. Just thought I'd see if anyone had a thought to share! I'm not the most creative mind But if I see something I like I can copy it

6 år sedanHow nice that you have a chance to my lemonade out of lemon. I agree that you don't need the shutters for your style of home. You can go more modern and fresh - fun for you! I recommend a medium tone grey for the body of the house, black for the trims and garage doors and then have some fun with the front door. Red, orange, teal blue all come to mind as fun options. Good luck!

tell us where you are located? It's helpful to know the climate. What
style are you looking to evoke? Do you want to keep a traditional look
or really change the look and go more contemporary? What type of siding do you intend to use? Vinyl siding is notoriously bad for the environment and for the health of those who work in vinyl manufacturing plants and live in the communities that surround them. I always recommend that homeowners try to look for an alternative.
If you decide to go with shutters, houses look their best when the shutters are the appropriate type for the style of the house and, ideally, should be sized and installed so that they either are - or appear to be - fully functional shutters which
would cover the window when closed. The narrow shutters on your large window are a good example of bad proportion. When they are installed the right
way, they lend layers and shadow lines which are more authentic and
enhance the look of a house. If you want to do that, consult http://www.oldhouseguy.com/shutters.php on what houses were meant to have shutters and how to install them for an authentic look.If you are interested in a more modern or eclectic style, you can
accomplish that by changing the color, the type and style of siding,
lighting, and the style of front entrance. Vertical siding,
board-and-batten, or stucco will give you a more unique appearance. If you want to stay with traditional siding, you can add some
excitement by using multiple colors on the house. Different roofing
materials will also give you a different look...metal, tile, slate, wood
shingle, etc. Here are some inspiration photos:[https://www.houzz.com/photos/split-level-facelift-traditional-exterior-minneapolis-phvw-vp~4272243[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/split-level-facelift-traditional-exterior-minneapolis-phvw-vp~4272243)

If you ever need to replace your windows, consider something with a different style which can add character to the front of the house:

Just remember - have fun with it! Add a touch of your own personal style and really make it your own.
