After looking at lots of houses, which is more popular or fashionable; separate kitchen/lounge/dining room or kitchen/diner or even through lounge?

For me I'd go for kitchen diner every time. More space and more sociable.

Would definitely recommend open plan - kitchen / diner! You'll get a great deal of space!

I prefer kitchen diner and a more private lounge. We have a more private lounge as well as a lounge which is partially opened to the kitchen diner....This offers great flexibility when we have guests.

    I prefer kitchen/dinner with a separate lounge.
If there is room as suggested above a kitchen/dinner/family with separate snug would be lovely - could also be used as a playroom whilst children are smaller and then an adult sanctuary from teenagers and their friends.
We have moved from property that had a lounge/dinner and separate kitchen, as I hated it once we had children as unable to keep eye on them playing whilst getting on with cooking/washing etc.

I prefer separate spaces, there is less chance of food smells travelling. Each space can have it's own distinct style. I also feel its an illusion, that there is more space its just one big space containing two entities.
