kitchen diner- help!

I’m soon to be moving into a new build with an open kitchen diner. I’ve gone for pale grey shaker style cupboards and white quartz worktops with grey shiny floor tiles, (photo is the kitchen I’ve chosen but not the layout) we have a breakfast bar, and I’m really struggling to choose a dining table. We don’t have a separate dining room so I am looking for a table for 6 people. I didn’t want to go for complete glass as feel it would be too ‘modern’ but on the flip side am not sure oak would go with this style, although I have seen some beautiful tables. As a contrast I am drawn towards oak with black legs as the rest of the kitchen is pale. The photo with the chairs has an option to have a glass top which I loved but wasn’t sure about the chrome legs and I loved the other table with dark legs.....help!

Then there is the question of chairs, I don’t want anything too grand but do like the velvet chairs for comfort and then would keep 2 bar stools simple. I am thinking of injecting a pop of colour, like teal, or blush or would it be ‘safer’ to stick to neutral.....any advice would be appreciated as I’ve started dreaming about dining tables!

    Hi there,

Lovely kitchen! Ok so as your kitchen has a very modern feel I suggest to stick to finding a modern version of an oak dining table. The ones you have picked look very rustic that's not to say it wouldn't work in a modern setting but I think it will work better if you use a more modern style and that will help with your dilemma! For example you could go with this customisable Neptune dining table below. The legs can be painted black: https://www.neptune.com/furniture/dining/tables/hebden/hebden-dining-table-glass-top-painted-legs/

Depending on how much room you have you could go for something like this where the legs are more prominent:

In terms of your seating I agree they need to be comfortable, though I would avoid adding the 'pop of colour' - interior design doesn't really use colour like that! Unless of course you are going to add that colour in other places in your kitchen e.g. paint the island units teal.

I also recommend to buy the chairs from the same company as your dinning table, they will have the right heights for the chairs for their own dining tables. It's a small things that makes a big difference when you're sitting at the table :) Or make sure you measure them before you buy.

I can confirm Neptune have really comfortable and very high quality seating. I suggest to go for the Miller Dining Chair, which is customisable so you can have black legs if you wanted to and velvet in teal or blush: https://www.neptune.com/furniture/dining/chairs-benches/miller/miller-dining-chair/

If you want to keep the budget lower, Baker and Stonehouse have cheaper alternatives which could work well: https://www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/dining-room/Dining-Chairs/Beckton-Dining-Chair-Blue/2-2838-96206/

    Hope that helps?
