We're living in strange days. I hope all my friends and fabulous design, gardening and diy gurus are safe and well. We're far flung but we can support one another here.
Here's a pic of my grand niece Maryam, born today. Why not post a pic of something that uplifts you? Anything from a cushion to a paint swatch, to the view from your garden :-)

The smile of an elderly man called Patrick uplifted me but I don't have a photo. I took an elderly woman shopping and she told me about Patrick. He is at the end of his life and completely alone. I filled a trolley with essentials and nice food for him and delivered it as a St. Patricks day gift. His smile will stay with me forever. We are so lucky most of us. Congrats Sam. x

Hej! I am Australian and live in Australia but have lived 7 years in Sweden. My written Swedish is rusty so I am going to write here in English in case you are interested in some more thoughts, although you have probably already written your article. I know more what lagom means than the average English speaker, but I certainly can't truly 'feel' it like a Swede who has grown up with it. For me it feels like how much Kalles I might put on my knackbrod, but I have lately started to try to think of it in terms of interiors and see if it works. The reason I am doing that is that I am currently working in the field of Professional Organising- helping people de-clutter, scale back, and organise. This process results in quite a makeover for a home and even life style and can be life changing. I personally LOVE minimalism and talk about it often but I find that the average person I meet is a bit cynical of minimalism and thinks it is too extreme. I have been reading a ton about minimalism and read some about hygge. I think what the average person is longing for is some minimalism+ some hygge. I think the current world (politics and fast pace of life , overdose of stuff, and overdose of info in our face all day on our screens, etc etc) feels a bit stressful for everyone these days. So, although the average person longs for simplicity, the word minimalism scares some people, and hygge is too cozy for some and so the concept and word LAGOM may be just the answer! The 'world' may start to borrow the word lagom from you Swedes now to fill a need for a word lacking in English that can fall between minimalism and cosy, that can feel relaxing, and which doesn't mean you have to get rid of as much as minimalism does. It may well gain a meaning outside of Sweden that is a different to inside Sweden I suppose. For example if the word became popular it could become a term for a 'style'. That would be pretty different to the meaning inside Sweden. I am actually planning to introduce the concept and word 'lagom' to my clients as way to encourage them to get rid of excess and have a calmer home, yet not be afraid as the goal does not have to be minimalism, it can be 'lagom' - just right, perfect, not too little, not too much. It sounds like a level or quantity they can choose themself as we go along. A bit like Marie Kondo's method; 'Choose to keep only what gives YOU joy and you will end up with just the right amount of stuff. It will be a result that fits YOU, not something you have to try to work to achieve, which I think Minimalism may feel to the average person. Shevaun Sandlund in West Australia.

Mey, it was not my intention to hurt your feelings nor to sugarcoat the fact that you need more color. You know this better than anyone. Why else should you show the ( very ) different color curtains? I don't know what your going to du but, I am absolutely convinced you'll do what you need to do, you'll do it when you're good and ready. Last but not least, it'll be fantastic! Once again, Mey, good luck to you and please please could you not write again, to keep us posted?!

My name is Andre Schievink and I run the design studio Amsterdam Living here in Stockholm. I have been working from my office for the last 12 years. With lots of fun and entousiasm. Now its time to move to a bigger location and share and combine our workspace with other creative designers/stylists/ artists/fashionistas and co interior designers. I am looking for a butik/ lokal on the groundfloor , in downtown Stockholm, with lots of windows and possibility for clients to walk in and see what we are doing or showing. For example if we are with 6 people, we need about 120-180 square meters lokal , with an est. rent of about 4000 kr. per person per month. Hi Francesca! Nice place you got. I suggest you create a conversation corner, with two smaller sofas facing each other, or one sofa and two chairs. You can also change position of the sofa to back on to the cupboards if you don't need to face a TV. And then just go for it with colorful rugs, cushions and art! Please post when you have started, look forward to seeing the transformation!

Hope you got some food in ok Daisy? Thank you Sam for the thread, we do need to keep in touch and keep each other as mentally healthy as we can. There is not enough good news being shared so thank you to the posters who have shared theirs, especially welcoming the youngest members of Houzz! :D

Hi Guys,

I must admit, these are crazy times,

I was just wondering how you are doing? are your companies working?

How do you adapt?

Warrington and Rose is still operating, … our operative have taken moulds and materials to home and they are mostly working on their gardens. Office is working from home.

When we deliver, we're keeping our distance, we have gloves, N95 masks and googles... to protect ourselves and clients...

I hope that you are all doing ok, and we will survive it together

I’m working from home as much as I can, and also home schooling.
When I’m able to forget what is going on and reason why I’m home, I’m really enjoying having to opportunity to spend more time with my daughters, very grateful for living in an area with beautiful countryside, and the sunshine.

Victoria, I really hope you are able to attend your Dad's, funeral but thought of you when I saw these lovely words a friend has written today on losing his beloved grandmother -

The optimist will say "They're in a better place." The pessimist will say "It was just their time." Be the realist. Smile and say "They'll always be with me." It’s heartbreaking for those not able to say goodbye today but you don’t need a room full of people and an array of flowers to know how much you were loved. ❤️

Bumping this post, because I miss reading all your stories, guys! And I miss creating lovely floorplans and mockups! Long Covid still hasn't left my brain, need all my energy for the basics of life. Will return though, and hopefully start something designer-ish, new adventures with glorious horizons!

This is our little ray of sunshine. Haven’t had a pet for years and we decided to get a kitty cat after my husband tripped and fell and sustained a head injury. Life is very different now, but our little Nigel has brought a bit of joy into a difficult year. He’s a complete nutter (unless he’s sleepy) and makes us laugh every day.

@Sonia, I’m a big cat lover. He’s absolutely gorgeous. We no longer have cats because we travel to Somerset regularly and the last cat (Tinkerbelle) hated the car journey. We had to have her put down at the grand age of 22 because she was literally crumbling to bits. Outlived her sister by 10 years. They really do become part of the family. Son has 3 cats so I’ll have to share his

Daisy I’ve been more of a dog person in the past, but cats are amazing. They are so affectionate when they want to be but aloof when they have other things to do! Wow Tinkerbelle had an amazingly long life and seems like she was lucky to have you, and the other way round of course!

Sonia, @Rinked, Jonathan, Victoria et al, how nice to get a notification from Houzz after all this time age read your posts. I’m so sorry that you’re facing tough times @Rinked. Sonia how lovely that your pet cat is getting you through what must be challenging times. My house is ‘finished’ in the sense that I got to 85% done and though ‘this’ll do’ . Before and after pics of the latest project below. But the new dream is to build our own house in a couple of years, so I can see myself back on here full time soon!
