Did you use special tile over the metal surround of the fireplace?

I am trying to tile over my outdoor fireplace metal surround and need advice on any special materials needed. Thank you!

    The fireplace surround is a pressure-treated lumber frame with a stucco exterior. The tile is a regular Talavera tile I picked up in Ensenada, Mexico. When I placed the tile I backed it off the top edge to avoid overheating the tile.
