We are attempting to update a panel bookcase with paint and new doors

We are attempting to update a panel bookcase with paint and new doors are ordered. Our dilemma is this Formica top. The case is built right on top of this. What can we use to cover and update this?

    they make paint products to change countertops or glue on wood veneer.

    You're welcome! After you prime, you should be able to paint with the white you've been using on the rest of the cabinet. If there is any concerns regarding durability, you can use a paint specially formulated for cabinets: Benjamin Moore's Advance paint in Pearl finish [ http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/for-contractors/the-best-paint-for-cabinetry-jobs]

    Ikea sells white laminate counterstops- you could always replace the brown laminate with white and not have to worry about painting- you would just have to cut it to size. Or get some white shelviing they sell at Home Depot/Lowes and use that. I have never heard of a great way to paint Formica/laminate that actually lasts over time.
