The beams are 'faux' and not actually solid wood. The size of some members were as big as 8"x12" and spanned over 25' in length - so using solid wood would not have been practical. We fabricated all the beams and posts on site using 1" pine boards and joining them using dowel pins, glue and clamping the pieces together. The beams were then hewed, stained and sealed, producing an end product identical to a large solid wood beam. Hope this answers your question
8" x 12" Beams are common in our yard here. We carry beams all the way up to 14" and are able to cut and measure to your desired dimensions. The length is also not an issue as we hold and carry beams through 40' in length. Having Hand Hewn Beams and Circular Sawn Beams, it's too bad we weren't able to speak with you about your project! We could have also provided resawn beams with a resurfaced finish to give you the hand hewn look as well. The beams look great though!
