Urban Oasis Landscape DesignAn ethereal Palo Alto tree stands sentry in the upper level, where another serene seating area was created. Where once this was an inhospitable desert, the garden now it has a multitude of tranquil destinations to enjoy, serenaded by the calls of birds that have made their home there.

Every detail was highly considered, even down to the customer made breeze block to create this on-trend screen wall. Everything is new, all plants, cactus, agave, succulents, plants, and lighting. place architecture:designOur clients’ goal was to add an exterior living-space to the rear of their mid-century modern home. They wanted a place to sit, relax, grill, and entertain while enjoying the serenity of the landscape. Using natural materials, we created an elongated porch to provide seamless access and flow to-and-from their indoor and outdoor spaces.
The shape of the angled roof, overhanging the seating area, and the tapered double-round steel columns create the essence of a timeless design that is synonymous with the existing mid-century house. The stone-filled rectangular slot, between the house and the covered porch, allows light to enter the existing interior and gives accessibility to the porch.

building Lab, inc.Eichler in Marinwood - At the larger scale of the property existed a desire to soften and deepen the engagement between the house and the street frontage. As such, the landscaping palette consists of textures chosen for subtlety and granularity. Spaces are layered by way of planting, diaphanous fencing and lighting. The interior engages the front of the house by the insertion of a floor to ceiling glazing at the dining room.
Jog-in path from street to house maintains a sense of privacy and sequential unveiling of interior/private spaces. This non-atrium model is invested with the best aspects of the iconic eichler configuration without compromise to the sense of order and orientation.

Mockingbird HomeThis midcentury gem was in need a little detailing outside. By using an open trellis detail from the existing fence, we were able to break up the long empty walls of the facade and provide just the right detail to this modern landscape.
