Magothy Second Home
After completing one residence, this client asked the firm to design a new “second home” for their waterfront property on the Magothy River. The existing property has been owned by the family for decades and was comprised of four separate lots with two summer cottages on two of the lots. The decision was made to demolish the existing structures and consolidate all of the long and narrow lots into one, more linear homestead.
The design of the house took full advantage of the views toward the water by utilizing extensive glass walls. The street side of the house aff ords much greater privacy by employing a solid stucco wall with smaller punched windows. The design exposes the post and beam construction on the interior spaces and conveys a decidedly contemporary aesthetic with deep overhangs on the galvanized corrugated metal roof. A small enclosed “crows nest” extends above the main roof of the house and provides breathtaking 360 degree views.
