Now that's my idea of a backyard

Q

Now that's my idea of a garden - neat and tidy.

Q

we'd have to build them higher and narrower for me to use but this is a decent design

we could build the ground level deck with plastic wood stuff like this and put the firepit in the centre. This looks nice and could come off the bedroom really well.

Q

Foto

looks really inviting though not sure we would be allowed the fireplace

Q

The wall on the deck - both the kitchen and bedroom side is not very interesting This is an interesting idea - put up a panel with something on it as a focal point.

Q

another approach to a fire pit patio - this one would work particularly easy in our yard

Q

this looks like a fairly straightforward patio for a fire pit though I would do something different for the actual pit

Make cement stepping stones out of large leaves.

Attach one side to the house and the other side to a pole or tree, then slide the curtains across for shade. They said they were using IKEA curtain tract. If we're not ready to do the gazebo next summer we could try this for overall shade. Not sure about how to hold it up at the railing end but ...

Q

this might be a bit prohibitive in expense but would make the yard look amazing and be really easy to maintain. We could do this for the 1st 2/3 of the yard and plant tall grasses in the back.

Maybe we could make our guest house look like this (not the sand garden, that's crazy)

No-Ladder Gutter Cleaner This gutter cleaner is inexpensive, takes about 10 minutes to make and will help you avoid ladder climbing. Buy 3/4-in. PVC pipe, two elbows, a garden hose coupling and a cap at a local home center. Drill 1/16-in. holes in the cap as shown. Make the handle long enough to comfortably reach your gutters, and cement the parts together with PVC glue.

Q

This is a suggestion about how to handle the area outside my bedroom

Rubber door mats also work as pretty molds for concrete stepping stones.

A bucket table provides a storage space for things you don't want to leave out in the rain, like citronella candles and pillows. good idea

The Knock Out variety of roses lets gardeners of any skill level (and soil type) enjoy dazzling blooms. Knock Out roses can be planted individually, or as a colorful hedge. They bloom all summer long and well into fall with no special care. While they will perform best if pruned after the last frost, they’ll come back year after year, even if you don’t. If you do decide to cut them back for shaping purposes, do it any way you like—the plant won't mind! Available at Burpee.com; $18.95 for one plant.

Low, and slow growing, Indian hawthorn is the perfect shrub for sunny spots in your landscape. It has a naturally rounded growing habit, and so needs little pruning. Its attention-grabbing clusters of pink or white blooms, which give way each spring to blue berries that attract birds and other small wildlife. It is evergreen, to boot—meaning it will provide year-round interest to your garden. Available at Home Depot; $39.98.
