Back of Family Residence, Renovation
The homeowner inherited his childhood home with a lot of sentimental value making it possible to do things that otherwise would not be practical. The home had a poorly executed addition to the rear that we chose to remove. Our first task was to stabilize the foundation and determine what was salvageable. We removed the entire foundation which allowed us to provide a new, proper height basement. Once that decision was made it was easy to justify stripping the home’s exterior siding and interior plaster. This allowed for new insulation where there wasn’t any and new mechanical systems. The home was raised and moved to the side. The new areas include an expanded Kitchen and new Family Room. A new side entry, Mud Room and bath were added to the side along with a stair tower. The second floor addition provided space for a new Master Suite. The original bedrooms were maintained including the owner’s childhood room where his son now sleeps. We were also able to maintain the original fireplace and chimney; it is now part of the Foyer. A front covered porch was added. As a second phase we added a detached 2 car garage.
