Who: Ben Ezra of Regal Construction & Remodeling
Where: Tarzana, California
In his own words: “The thing that inspires me most is the ability to create something out of nothing, to turn a client’s dream into reality.”
It can be overwhelming to hand off your home improvement dreams to a builder. You want to be sure they get you. You want to know what’s in the realm of possibility and what isn’t. That’s why Ben Ezra, the chief management officer of Regal Construction & Remodeling in Tarzana, believes in working closely with his clients to set an intention and explore all the options, no matter the scope of the project.
The son of two architects, Ezra grew up around construction and always knew it would guide his career path. Now, after working with Regal Construction & Remodeling for five years, he feels privileged to be part of an “elite team, where everyone is held to the highest standards.” They rely on one another and “get excited about a project together,” Ezra says.

Clients are people, first and foremost. “We don’t work with mortar or materials. We work with people,” Ezra says. “So we listen. We lay out options. We do everything we can to manage expectations and we collaborate.” Say someone wants to build new. Or maybe they want to add on. Or change the look or feel of a home. “Large or small, we give it the same undivided attention,” he says.
Passion projects. The customer isn’t always right — but they’re always justified in asking for what they want, Ezra says. “Homeowners are passionate about their homes, as well they should be, and we always do our best to check all the boxes on their wish lists.” If a request is over-the-top, impractical or not structurally feasible, Ezra sees it not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to present a viable alternative.

Deciding how to make your dream home a reality? Ezra shares his tips below.
1. Shoot for the Stars
The new homeowners of this expansive home in Los Angeles wanted it to feel more like New Hampshire than California. It was a tall order, Ezra says, but his team members put their heads together and figured out how to meld forms and materials to make “East meet West in the middle.” They kept the 5,400-square-foot envelope intact but “reconfigured everything inside and out to create a unique design you don’t often find in L.A.,” he says. “We helped them reimagine it for a new life on the West Coast.”

2. Blur the Boundaries
This client wanted a brand-new home with a farmhouse feel. They liked some contemporary elements but didn’t want anything ultramodern. Regal borrowed some features of the iconic style to achieve a modern farmhouse vibe, creating contrasts throughout. With its beautiful big windows and vertical siding, the exterior reads fresh and modern. “The interior is white but warm, with many wood elements,” he says, “including a wood handrail instead of glass, solid wood stairs and an exposed beam in the primary bedroom.”

3. Trust the Process
These homeowners loved their lot in the Hollywood Hills but not the old house that was built in the 1960s and never remodeled. The site was tired too. They described the home they saw in their mind’s eye and Regal Construction made it happen. It was quite an undertaking, but Ezra says the clients’ trust allowed the firm to reimagine everything about the property. The house was stripped down to its studs and the yard into “3,000 square feet of dirt.” Says Ezra: “We redid the layout, opened up the kitchen, living and dining areas, we changed it all. And outside we created an inviting yard with defined areas for sitting, lounging and dining, all while keeping the vibe of the neighborhood.”
