To paint or not to paint?

I have this table sitting on my enclosed porch right now for lack of a better place to put it. I am thinking if I paint it I will like it better, but I also don't want to wish that I hadn't at some point. Do you think I should paint it? I have problems figuring out what to put on it and decorate it with because there is so much going on with it already.

Callie: did you already do a "family check" with your husband's side? Heaven forbid this has some unknown sentimental value to sisters/aunts, etc. and they come to visit and see it painted. Also, I'm assuming you already did a once over for marks, maker and so forth. I mean, chances are it was an inexpensive knock off of inlaid pieces, but sometimes even those have more family meaning than value. If none of the above prohibit it, love the blue. If you do the netting curtains, I'd stick with white, or this blue if you can find it. I saw your other post, and think a brighter color might look a bit odd from outside the house, given the home's paint colors.

Hello Callie,

Honestly, you are between a rock and a hard place! It's a cute table, but if you are having challenges using it, then maybe it's time to paint it. I understand, however, how you feel about regretting it later, but if you paint it and you are able to use it then you won't even remember what it looked like before you painted it! Are you thinking black? Or white? or another color all together?

I bet you would love it painted a bright color or with chalk paint... I love the shape and a color would really highlight it's unique shape!

Helt fantastisk möbel!! Jag förstår verkligen vad du menar att du nu vill måla allt och ser möjligheter med varenda möbel & pryl. Jag tycker den är fin som den är men skulle också bli riktigt fin som målad. Men, jag säger som ovan - det beror på hur övrig inredning ser ut. Jag tycker det är fint att matcha en del och plocka upp färger & toner för att knyta ihop ett rum med ett annat osv. Men man vill inte att allt ska gå ton i ton. Eller jag skulle inte vilja det. Så se efter och du kanske till och med skulle vilja måla möbeln i en stark accentfärg? För att verkligen låta den ta plats? Eller inte. Lycka till! Och det ska bli spännande att se vad du beslutar :)

Åh vilken fin lägenhet du flyttat in i! Jättemycket potential tycker jag. Öppningen mellan sovrum och vardagsrum är fantastiskt. Med lite färg och dina möbler tror jag det kommer bli superfint! Om du vill köra på ett trendigt färgval på matta och detaljer har just kombinationen orange och rosa synts väldigt mycket tillsammans, inte minst förra veckan på möbelmässan. Lite blek, laxrosa. Låter inte så roligt men faktiskt väldigt fint till röda och orangea toner! Om du vill dämpa färgerna kan något gråblått vara fint. Kanske en mönstrad matta från Layered som dessutom funkar om du någon gång väljer att klä om eller byta ut soffan? Kolla här! När det kommer till elementet borde det gå att täcka med ett elementskydd.... Det finns ju många "färdiga" att köpa men om man vill hålla nere kostnaderna och är hyfsat händig kanske det går att göra själv? Köpa metallgaller i önskat mönster? Köket tycker jag ser ut som den största (men kanske också roligaste!) utmaningen. Vitvarorna tycker jag du kan spara ett tag, med nya luckor och kakel kommer de smälta in bra! Är det Ikea-stommar? I så fall tycker jag att du ska välja vågade luckor från t ex Superfront, Reform eller Picky Living eller gråa luckor från Ikea och satsa på fina beslag! Att kakla om mellan bänk och skåp kan du göra själv och spara några slantar. Vilken stil gillar du? Det ser lite retro ut på första bilden, stämmer det?

Jag tycker att det kan vara väldigt snyggt att låta den gula soffan vara den enda färgen i rummet likt bilden nedan. Kanske komplettera med lite konst? Annars håller jag med Ossiana att ljusgrått hade passat snyggt!

If you have already chosen the place where you will put if after it is painted, let the other colors in that area guide you as to what color to paint it.

If you don't already know where you will put it or what color to paint it, then painting it will not make it any better or more useful. You would be money and time ahead to donate it to Goodwill or Salvation Army and treat yourself to lunch while you are out.

I agree that you need to have a place in mind for it and then paint it accordingly. You can always be SAFE with black, but will black look nice where you want it?

The wicker furniture is white and you have red pillows that really pop on the settee, but I wouldn't want a red table! How about chalk paint? Google Annie Sloan chaulk paint and the website will pop up.

Its a nice table but if you are tired of the look then paint it in a colour that would compliment your decor . You could re apply stencils if you wish or just leave it plain.

Use Annie Sloan chalk paint and then finish it off with her wax.

The Annie Sloan paint does look fun. I was thinking about buying a few of these pillows along with some solid yellow pillows, so what color would you paint it?

I would definiltly use Annie Sloan paint! I love your pillows....and your porch!!! It's me but i really like the yellow or turquoise paint for a table...good luck!

Actually, if you purchase the pillows, I'd paint the table navy. Somehow that feels a little more sophisticated against the grey wall and white trim with the white furniture. This would allow you to do accessories in yellow/red/white with a small green plant that would make it feel more dynamic. It's a cute table but, to me, not so super special I would choose to feature it in an electric color by the front door.

I was thinking a turquoise color or bright blue as well, but I think nwduck might be right about navy. I don't know that I really love the table enough to want it to stand out. What do you think about hanging some turquoise sheers on each end of the porch behind the settee and the swing? Maybe hang them in front of the pillars so they balance out the space? But I don't know if that would be awkward being about a foot from the window

it's gorgeous!

if you don't know where to put it, paint will not help in any case, so give it to someone who will love it and use it. those flowers/leaves look hand done, and they're wonderful.

First I would decide where you could use it and give it a purpose. Do you have an entry where you could add a mirror and some lamps with it for an inviting welcome wall? Do you have a sofa that is not against the wall and you could put it on the back side? Do you have a hallway that you could use it in? Find a purpose then choose a color to compliment that space.

Somebody, I hope not your husband, already stenciled this Sheraton demilune console table, thereby destroying its value.
Therefore, it doesn't matter particularly what you do to it. I think, however, that painting it will just make matters worse.

Paint it. Be sure to seal it with Polycrylic sealer from Minwax. It doesn't have the yellowing effect like a polyurethane.

Well his sister has never seen it before, so it must have been his ex-wife's :) So its getting painted! I'm excited to try the Annie Sloan paint!
