when I entertain, I take care of the bathroom: light scented candle/s, make sure there is extra toilet paper on hand, lay out pretty paper towels or fresh hand towels. I have an assortment of mis-matched crystal candle sticks which look lovely planted on top of mirrors on my dining tables. Great tip: I set my candles by heating paraffin wax in the micro (takes about 10 minutes), then dipping the bases of my tapers in the paraffin before setting them in the sticks. Makes a very secure fitting. A few garnishes on food really go a long way towards upping the presentation. A few easy ones: minced red bell peppers, springs of rosemary, sliced basil, chopped toasted nuts, lemon zest. I also love to serve dips in a hollowed out cabbage or bell pepper. If you're in a hurry, you can get a similar result by wrapping a few cabbage leaves around a crystal bowl full of dip. Another quick customization you can do for a party is to tie ribbon around your votive holders - or for a casual party, use canning jars with gingham or raffia ties as votive/candle holders. Unscented candles around the food please! I don't hesitate to mix fake flowers & foliage in with real. Florists sticks come in handy to rig up all kinds of interesting inserts for arrangements - fake apples, pine cones, wood ears, pods of all kinds, giant acorns, mini-wheat sheafs, I've even done paint brushes in arrangements for an art event.... Another go-to for me is to do quick arrangements in crystal biscuit barrels - first line with a large green leaf (I just happen to have cast iron plants in my yard), then fill with a dozen tulips, roses, etc. For more elaborate arrangements in biscuit barrels, I first make a grid with clear florist tape across the top. They are very easy to work with because they are heavy & not inclined to "tump" over! Most important, keep calm. Second most important, be sure you have enough ice!

5. Potluck dinner club. Think of this as a more organized version of your typical potluck dinner. Choose a theme and have each member sign up to bring a dish or an extra (flowers, place cards, wine) and gather on the big night to savor and enjoy.
