With just a few shifts of furniture, the downstairs spaces support caring for a child—the extra bathroom and the laundry room all in two-step proximity to the nursery. The family room serves as a play room. The large sliding glass door separating the living room from the kitchen has served as a “built-in” baby gate to corral a once fast crawling baby. Then, in the summers, opening the family room’s slide-fold doors to the deck converts the deck to an outdoor play room.
