This stunning, bespoke oak Gothic conservatory on a Grade II listed property in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. With curved glass in the roof and unique glazing of the gable and frames. The curved glass sealed units in the roof were custom made for this project. The dark stained interior oak provides a unique warm contrast to the white exterior. This typical stone period property in southern Wales provided the perfect backdrop for this traditional painted conservatory. The new conservatory has completely transformed the back of this customer’s grade II Listed home, bringing them a light living space, for enjoyment throughout the year. But the design needed careful consideration and to work in harmony with the immediate environment. “As our home is Listed, we were worried the local authority would not approve our idea – fortunately, David Salisbury dealt with the planning process on our behalf and obtained the relevant permission, which made it a lot less stressful,” as the customer noted. Replacing a pond, which took up much of the area at the back of the house, the new extension was built with an adjoining ‘dwarf wall’ in matching stone – with the new timber and glazed conservatory added on top. The garden table and chairs complement the patio area, which can now be easily accessed via the French doors opening out from the conservatory. The glazed roof, a particular feature of a conservatory (as opposed to the perimeter flat solid roof that is a hallmark of an orangery – read the differences between these types of our structures in this previous Blog post) featured solar controlled glass, meaning the room can be enjoyed no matter the time of year. As the customer noted, “we love our David Salisbury conservatory. It’s the best room in our house. Built 3 years ago now and we use it nearly every day. I can still remember it being done - no fuss and David Salisbury were excellent. Mike Chinn (project manager) was great and so was all the other staff involved from beginning to end. The whole build process went smoothly and David Salisbury were always on hand to speak to. If we move, we will definitely have another one.
