Color in Interior Design

Complementary: Complementary: The complementary color scheme is probably one of the simplest one out of all of them. This color scheme uses two colors that sit opposite of each other on the color wheel. In this picture it would be the color blue and the color orange. The combination of these two colors in one room creates this sunny, happy and calming sitting area where one can just relax.

Analogous: Analogous: The Analogous color schemes is basically when three colors are placed next to each other in the color wheel. In this case it would be the colors red, red-orange, orange. The colors in this room create a very harmonious room with a good balance of the three colors.

Monochromatic: A monochromatic color scheme uses a single base color for the room. The living space displays a very warm tone with the light wood colors for most of the area. The couch, flooring, chandelier all match giving the room a monochromatic tone. The culmination of all the pieces in this space as well as the light brushed color of wood makes the room feel open yet comfortable and snug.

Split Complementary: The split complementary color scheme can be less aggressive than a standard complementary setup. This color scheme really offers the same advantages of a complementary color scheme in terms of contrast and the balance between warm and cool color temperatures. The contrasting colors of green, red, blue, and violet makes the room dynamic yet stable at the same time. I think the warm white on the walls creates this stability in the room even with all the colors.

Triadic: The triadic color scheme consists of the three colors that are evenly spaced out on the color wheel. The colors exhibited in this setup would be violet, green and orange. When you mix these three colors it is not as intense as other color schemes. they go really well together. This room incorporates an eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures. The radiant colors almost make it so relaxing and tranquil.

High key: High key colors range from mid-tone hues to white. Hues like this bring high energy to a living space. The whitewashed wood beams creates an echo of the concrete walls that somewhat have this wood-like appearance from a distance. It makes the space seems very organic and tranquil. The soft colors resemble a very open, clean, and free-flowing place to sleep.

Low key: Low key colors, on the other hand, range from mid-tone to black hues. I chose to go with a less aggressive example of a low key space. However, I do feel this space follows the scheme. The bottom half of this kitchen which includes the cabinetry and the island all have a creamy white color to them as for the top half, it is a little more shady with the dark brown beams of wood and the range hood. As well as the brown flooring. There is still light in this kitchen but also has a low key hue making it a quiet space where one can cook in peace.
