The Don lies in a quiet pocket of Brunswick: an area dotted with heritage homes and rich with manufacturing history.
Looking past years of neglect, our client saw the promise of the existing weatherboard house - with its circa-1900s
charm, brick chimneys and beautiful Victorian details – and sought to transform it into a versatile family home.
A careful renovation and restoration has preserved the cottage’s traditional features and layout, and this front section of the home has been reconfigured to contain refreshed bedrooms and bathrooms. The original hallway beginning at the front door now leads through to the north-facing rear extension, where living spaces and courtyards unfold on either side of this central spine. The kitchen is the axis of this zone: spacious, hardwearing and practical, it’s well-equipped for passionate cooks and effortlessly accommodates family gatherings. It connects easily to the two living spaces, the dining room, and the patio nestled in the garden.
Inspired by Brunswick’s masonry history, red brick is the bedrock of the extension. It serves as a continuous floor that stretches from the internal rooms out to the patio, providing a robust surface fit for family life. Slicing through this earthy foundation is the smooth brightness of steel - a lightweight contrast in the form of external cladding, benchtops, light fittings and handles throughout. In the spaces between these two elemental materials, pale green finishes, soft neutrals and rich timbers round out the balanced, lush interiors of an enduring family home.

We worked with Concept Eight Architects to achieve the vision of the Glass Slot House. Glazing was a critical part of the vision for the large-scale renovation and extension. A full-width rear extension was added to the back of the property, creating a new, large open plan kitchen, living and dining space. It was vital that each of the architectural glazing elements featured created a consistent, modern aesthetic.
This photo displays the exterior view of the floating corner sliding doors; an integral part of the extension design, operating as a seamless link from the indoor to outdoor entertaining areas.

The rear extension is expressed as a simple gable form. The addition steps out to the full width of the block, and accommodates a second bathroom in addition to a tiny shed accessed on the rear facade.
The remaining 2/3 of the facade is expressed as a recessed opening with sliding doors and a gable window.

A tired, small 1970's house was refurbished and extended to become a modern, light-filled, sunny family home. The original house didn't take advantage of its leafy, expansive site, so the extension pushed north and opened up to the sun and outdoors. Living areas flow onto spacious, sunny outdoor areas to the north, and a generous hallway flows through to a new pool and the mature, leafy trees of the neighbouring park.
A strong, geometric form sits wide on the site and its pitched roof creates open, airy, light-filled interior spaces. High windows give glimpses of the sky and surrounding trees, and side windows provide a green, leafy outlook to the reserve next door. A muted but rich finishes palette and carefully designed cabinetry complement the lofty architecture. This busy young family can now live and thrive in their beautifully spacious, well-functioning home.

Hemmed in by houses on a tiny urban site, a gable roofed addition along one side is tucked behind the cottage allowing for the living room on the other side to have vaulted ceilings.

This project is a substantial remodel and refurbishment of an existing dormer bungalow. The existing building suffers from a dated aesthetic as well as disjointed layout, making it unsuited to modern day family living.
The scheme is a carefully considered modernisation within a sensitive greenbelt location. Despite tight planning rules given where it is situated, the scheme represents a dramatic departure from the existing property.
Group D has navigated the scheme through an extensive planning process, successfully achieving planning approval and has since been appointed to take the project through to construction.
