A true relic of the 60’s this 1200 square foot home was literally sinking into the landscape and lacked appeal, access and imagination.
The goal of the renovation was to turn the existing space into a more open livable plan that also took advantage of underutilized exterior areas.
Removing overgrown trees and vegetation, creating a new river-like walkway through a simple Japanese garden and entering onto a ground level deck area compliments the simple form of the exterior.
A closed in and dark kitchen area was transformed to open into the living area and out onto the deck. It features the clean lines of slate counters, high gloss cabinets, pendant halogen lighting and gourmet appliances.
The old fireplace has forced the living area down 5”. A centered high efficiency gas fireplace with plasma TV above, hidden stereo components and floating shelves maintains the open feel of the home.
The master featured 2 sinks and a toilet at bedside. A reconfigured floor plan allowed for a large ensuite with separate sinks and walk-in shower and a completely new main bathroom.
Floor to ceiling windows and doors continued the desire to open the space to the deck and garden.
Other features included rearranging the hall and laundry to add in storage, an office space and to unify the feel of the home using laminated glass doors and moving the new high efficiency furnace into the crawl space.
A small house with a big open feel, an ideal retreat offered as an alternative to condo and townhouse living.
Aloha Kitchen, Bath & DesignCalifornia modern rancher. Blend of warm and cool tones and material balance this space. Outdoor environment is low water use and drought resistant but still has greenery and inviting to hang out.
In the kitchen we removed the walls that made up the tiny closet of a kitchen that was in the corner under the skylight and was able to hide the ceiling height differences at the small desk area and oven cabinets and keep the skylight. The effect is a wide-open concept with the least amount of construction possible.
For the kitchen layout, we created a cozy zone for the chef to work in the corner without any cross traffic, seating area around the outside of the island keeps guest out of the work area but still close and part of the process. The warming drawer in the island positioned for proximity to the "buffet line" at the island when entertaining. On the dining end of the kitchen there is a coffee and wine bar. Coffee bar is hidden behind the metal roll up door, and the wine and liquor bar are to the left and both share the sink in the middle, making it a functional and useful space from the morning until the evening. I like to call this bar "Start and Stop" ha-ha. Even though this space is very open and airy, it has a ton of storage including underneath the seating area at the island and the little workstation, which is open and uncluttered, has lots of storage nestled in the wall and underneath the counter and hides any CPU and wires neatly.
In the master bath, we updated all the colors and finishes in a clean modern European style with large format porcelain tiles and repurposed a small useless closet (with a window in it) to a second vanity for extra counter space and linen storage. Plus, we added storage over the toilet in the water closet and an updated door and casing into the walk-in closet with frosted glass panels so that at night the light in the closet glowing in those panels can act as a night light. Our Project Manager, Tony Cicchino, and Designer, Sarah McDonald, teamed up to bring our client’s vision to reality yet once again. This client wanted to transform their master bath into a space of accessibility and elegance. The old tub bid farewell to make room for a stunning accessible shower, complete with convenient grab bars and comfortable seating – a true blend of form and function. The shower is truly dazzling with the bright, open ambiance carefully designed with an abundance of cleverly positioned overhead light. The master vanity also underwent a remarkable makeover, boasting increased storage capacity and a grander vanity mirror with even more space to stash all the essentials. No more clutter! The wainscot received a stylish upgrade along with the storage space above the toilet. One of our favorite aspects of the bathroom is the gorgeous, heated tiled floor, perfect for those chilly mornings. The color palette is a timeless masterpiece – classic black and white elegantly complimented by soft grays and whites in the wall system. A true symphony of sophistication and tranquility. Custom Design & ConstructionWe were excited when the homeowners of this project approached us to help them with their whole house remodel as this is a historic preservation project. The historical society has approved this remodel. As part of that distinction we had to honor the original look of the home; keeping the façade updated but intact. For example the doors and windows are new but they were made as replicas to the originals. The homeowners were relocating from the Inland Empire to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. One of their requests was additional living space. In order to achieve this we added a second story to the home while ensuring that it was in character with the original structure. The interior of the home is all new. It features all new plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Although the home is a Spanish Revival the homeowners style on the interior of the home is very traditional. The project features a home gym as it is important to the homeowners to stay healthy and fit. The kitchen / great room was designed so that the homewoners could spend time with their daughter and her children. The home features two master bedroom suites. One is upstairs and the other one is down stairs. The homeowners prefer to use the downstairs version as they are not forced to use the stairs. They have left the upstairs master suite as a guest suite.

Exterior: Approved by the historical society as a Spanish Revival, the second story of this home was an addition. All of the windows and doors were replicated to match the original styling of the house. The roof is a combination of Gable and Hip and is made of red clay tile. The arched door and windows are typical of Spanish Revival. The home also features a Juliette Balcony and window.
Library / Living Room: The library offers Pocket Doors and custom bookcases.
Powder Room: This powder room has a black toilet and Herringbone travertine.
Kitchen: This kitchen was designed for someone who likes to cook! It features a Pot Filler, a peninsula and an island, a prep sink in the island, and cookbook storage on the end of the peninsula. The homeowners opted for a mix of stainless and paneled appliances. Although they have a formal dining room they wanted a casual breakfast area to enjoy informal meals with their grandchildren. The kitchen also utilizes a mix of recessed lighting and pendant lights. A wine refrigerator and outlets conveniently located on the island and around the backsplash are the modern updates that were important to the homeowners.
Master bath: The master bath enjoys both a soaking tub and a large shower with body sprayers and hand held. For privacy, the bidet was placed in a water closet next to the shower. There is plenty of counter space in this bathroom which even includes a makeup table.

Outside: Wanting to take advantage of southern California living the homeowners requested an outdoor kitchen complete with retractable awning. The fountain and lounging furniture keep it light.
Home gym: This gym comes completed with rubberized floor covering and dedicated bathroom. It also features its own HVAC system and wall mounted TV.

Measuredworks ArchitectureThis cedar-wrapped poolhouse sits within the zoning footprint of an existing, dilapidated garden shed. It was conceived as an indoor/outdoor room, with three large barn doors sliding open to seamlessly connect the interior to an adjacent cedar deck and elevated 25-meter swimming pool. The space contains open showers, a toilet room and kitchenette and functions equally well as a spa in winter, with a Japanese soaking tub and sauna.
