Thompson RemodelingThe owners of this farmhouse were tempted to sell their home and move to Florida. They decided they would stay if they could remodel to accommodate main floor living with a new master suite and an enlarged family room. A design with three additions enabled us to make all the changes they requested.
One addition created the master suite, the second was a five-foot bump out in the family room, and the third is a breezeway addition connecting the garage to the main house.
Special features include a master bath with a no-threshold shower and floating vanity. Windows are strategically placed throughout to allow views to the outdoor swimming pool.

The site was visited first by us only after the design docket was fully prepared and till then we had only seen the site thru videos sent by clients due to the nationwide lockdown.
And during the first visit the apartment impressed us with its fabulous 10’ Height and the expansive views of the low-rise city literally making us feel we were ‘in the air’
The layout of the apartment was slightly tweaked to suit the clients lifestyle and taste, and with minimal civil changes the apartment was more refined to adapt to their requirements of a Mandir, a guest bedroom, a Large living cum dining space, a kitchen, a kids bedroom with a separate adventure room and a master bedroom.
The Guest bedroom is kept simplistic and minimal with claymen sculptures on the wall emphasising the various emotions on a dark brown wall.
The Kids Bedroom is dressy and fairytale like with its canopy bed styling and customised butterfly lights between the twin beds. The room also has a dedicated study desk with pastels splashed all over in the all white room.
The kids adventure room on the other side has a large backdrop of the world map with a pink desk to facilitate all art and craft activities. The room is kept almost open with absolutely no furniture to allow more playful and flexible space. A reading corner, a stacked art material closet and lots of space to pin their artworks has been carefully crafted. The highlight of this room is the monkey bar that allows the kids to have all the fun they miss out on going to the parks during restricted situations of lockdown.
The master bedroom is a warm and cosy space with a 15’ large live edge wood as the bed back to the simple olive green wall paint. The floor is a herringbone patterned wooden floor adding warmth to this space. The balcony in the master bedroom brings in the much needed break space for that evening cup of coffee. The master bedroom also has a study corner for the imposed work from home culture these days.
The Kitchen is a simple and functional setup with light colours and well complimented with a service kitchen, a laundry cum store room and a servants room and toilet.
The Living room with open dining space and balconies on east and west side remains the highlight of this project. The Dining table setup is a custom-made table for 10 made with a grey Dekton tile well complimented with the colourful artworks made by the family (including kids) making good use of the family time during the nationwide lockdown. The balcony on the kitchen side is dedicated to kitchen garden with a few spice trees, lime, herbs and essential plants. The living room on the other side is well laid out with its furniture to host 10/12 guests with the balcony overlooking the clean low-rise city with a sunset view at the horizon level. The outdoor setup from IKEA is a flexible seating which can be easily stacked away. The Blue Motiffed Mandir covers itself in art printed motorised curtain when needs to be covered.

building Lab, inc.At the site level, our first priority is to remove all the existing clutters (such as a light well, stairs and level changes) in order to create a unified outdoor space that serves both the ADU and the main residence.
With a total interior space of 14'X24', we aimed to create maximum efficiency by finding the optimal proportions for the rooms, and by locating all fixtures and appliances linearly along the long back wall. All white cabinets with stainless steel appliances and hardware, as well as the overall subdued material palette are essential in creating a modern simplicity. Other highlights include a curbless shower entry and a wall-hung toilet. The small but comfortable bath is suffused with natural light thanks to a generous skylight. The overall effect is a tranquil retreat carved out from a dense and somewhat chaotic urban block in one of San Francisco's most busy and vibrant neighborhoods.

Since this is the main hall bath in a ranch style house with 3 kids, the homeowners wanted the bathroom to be both luxurious and interesting. They also wanted a tub and shower in the room. For interest, Ulrich, Inc. designer, Aparna Vijayan created the bathroom floor to mimic a wood deck along a body of water: The tub and shower sit in a field of blue glass tile depicting water. Since the large window and skylight in the room bring in a lot of natural light and an outdoor view we brought greenery in by building a fully functional planter (complete with an integrated drain, etc.) which also serves as a privacy barrier for the toilet as you walk in the room!
Measuredworks ArchitectureThis cedar-wrapped poolhouse sits within the zoning footprint of an existing, dilapidated garden shed. It was conceived as an indoor/outdoor room, with three large barn doors sliding open to seamlessly connect the interior to an adjacent cedar deck and elevated 25-meter swimming pool. The space contains open showers, a toilet room and kitchenette and functions equally well as a spa in winter, with a Japanese soaking tub and sauna.
Designer Tile Plus20mm thickness porcelain tiles, frost proof, slip proof. It can withstand 7.5 tons of rolling weight, doesn't stain, easy maintanence.

Michael Nash Design, Build & HomesThis four-story townhome in the heart of old town Alexandria, was recently purchased by a family of four.
The outdated galley kitchen with confined spaces, lack of powder room on main level, dropped down ceiling, partition walls, small bathrooms, and the main level laundry were a few of the deficiencies this family wanted to resolve before moving in.
Starting with the top floor, we converted a small bedroom into a master suite, which has an outdoor deck with beautiful view of old town. We reconfigured the space to create a walk-in closet and another separate closet.
We took some space from the old closet and enlarged the master bath to include a bathtub and a walk-in shower. Double floating vanities and hidden toilet space were also added.
The addition of lighting and glass transoms allows light into staircase leading to the lower level.
On the third level is the perfect space for a girl’s bedroom. A new bathroom with walk-in shower and added space from hallway makes it possible to share this bathroom.
A stackable laundry space was added to the hallway, a few steps away from a new study with built in bookcase, French doors, and matching hardwood floors.
The main level was totally revamped. The walls were taken down, floors got built up to add extra insulation, new wide plank hardwood installed throughout, ceiling raised, and a new HVAC was added for three levels.
The storage closet under the steps was converted to a main level powder room, by relocating the electrical panel.
The new kitchen includes a large island with new plumbing for sink, dishwasher, and lots of storage placed in the center of this open kitchen. The south wall is complete with floor to ceiling cabinetry including a home for a new cooktop and stainless-steel range hood, covered with glass tile backsplash.
The dining room wall was taken down to combine the adjacent area with kitchen. The kitchen includes butler style cabinetry, wine fridge and glass cabinets for display. The old living room fireplace was torn down and revamped with a gas fireplace wrapped in stone.
Built-ins added on both ends of the living room gives floor to ceiling space provides ample display space for art. Plenty of lighting fixtures such as led lights, sconces and ceiling fans make this an immaculate remodel.
We added brick veneer on east wall to replicate the historic old character of old town homes.
The open floor plan with seamless wood floor and central kitchen has added warmth and with a desirable entertaining space.

Our Project Manager, Tony Cicchino, and Designer, Sarah McDonald, teamed up to bring our client’s vision to reality yet once again. This client wanted to transform their master bath into a space of accessibility and elegance. The old tub bid farewell to make room for a stunning accessible shower, complete with convenient grab bars and comfortable seating – a true blend of form and function. The shower is truly dazzling with the bright, open ambiance carefully designed with an abundance of cleverly positioned overhead light. The master vanity also underwent a remarkable makeover, boasting increased storage capacity and a grander vanity mirror with even more space to stash all the essentials. No more clutter! The wainscot received a stylish upgrade along with the storage space above the toilet. One of our favorite aspects of the bathroom is the gorgeous, heated tiled floor, perfect for those chilly mornings. The color palette is a timeless masterpiece – classic black and white elegantly complimented by soft grays and whites in the wall system. A true symphony of sophistication and tranquility. Robin and Chris’s ground-floor wet room is part of an extension they added to their 1930’s home some thirty years ago. It had been professionally installed, properly tanked and fully tiled to eliminate leaks, and had always functioned well. After decades of sterling service, and having coped with wet, outdoor clothing and muddy dogs as well as day-to-day use, it was starting to age. Rather than a complete re-design, Robin and Chris wanted to replace and update the existing fixtures and fittings, and address some minor issues,
“As the room is quite small, we’d originally fitted a space-saving, corner hand-basin, but it was too close to the shower area, and not big enough to be useful,” says Robin, “We also had a problem with water collecting along the wall on one side,”
“The floor-to-ceiling tiles were very practical, but they were just plain white and square, which made it feel stark and austere too,” adds Chris.
We had supplied Robin and Chris with bespoke curtains and upholstered furniture some years ago. Remembering how pleased they had been with our service at the time, they approached us again, and we were happy to help with their plans for the wet room. Our bathroom designer Lee Watkins set to work straightaway. Listening to the couple, he understood that the current layout needed only minor tweaks, so focussed on solving the main issues they had raised. Robin and Chris were open to the idea of a more colourful, eye-catching look for the wet room, as a change from the simple functionality they had previously had. Lee pointed them towards a range of tile suppliers they had not seen before, and browsing brochures and websites, Robin spotted some striking hexagonal patterned tiles in shades of green.

“Our taste is generally quite restrained, so the tiles were a big decision, but these looked spectacular, and we hadn’t come across anything else like them,” he says.
To reflect light and keep the room feeling bright, the patterned tiles have been balanced with plain white ones in the same hexagonal format. Their complex layout, which creates a loose, flowing effect, was the result of meticulous planning by Lee, followed by careful installation. Smaller mosaic tiles, colour-matched to the plain wall tiles, were chosen for the floor. They provide a safe, non-slip surface and follow the gradual slope of the floor towards the drain more easily than a larger size.
Turning his attention to the impractical hand-basin, Lee pinpointed the ideal spot for someone to stand to access the basin comfortably, and then adjusted the dimensions of the curtained shower area. This created just enough room to mount a new basin on the wall beside the door. Instead of the cramped corner style, Lee suggested a full-width, half-depth option that is easy to use and feels generous but doesn’t protrude awkwardly into the room. The basin sits on a smart, slimline cabinet, providing handy storage and cleverly maximising the limited space. Its modern, monobloc chrome tap echoes the style of other brassware in the couple’s home. To further coordinate, Chris and Robin picked a chrome-finish shower system, very similar in design to their previous one. To build on the streamlined, contemporary look, Lee recommended replacing the existing radiator too. He guided the couple towards a sleek, wall-mounted stainless-steel design, which will not rust or corrode in the humid atmosphere and can heat the room effectively.
Work on the new wet room took about two weeks. Lee suggested expert installer Mike to carry out the project, as it required specialist knowledge of tanking and wet room construction, to guarantee an absolutely watertight finish. All the old tiles were removed and the soundness of the existing plumbing carefully checked, before the entire room was re-screeded, re-tanked and tiled again. Robin and Chris were impressed by the team assigned, especially the way in which they minimised disruption for the couple, by isolating the wet room plumbing and electrics, so the work did not impact on other areas of the home. The re-laid floor is now perfectly smooth and slopes imperceptibly, so water no longer pools at one side. The shower drain, which had always been just off-centre, was neatly re-positioned exactly in the corner, adding to the crisp, clean feel,
“It’s turned out better than we imagined,” says Chris, “There’s nothing we’d change, and it’s just what we wanted.”
“This wasn’t a straightforward bathroom renovation, and it’s not easy to find a company that can offer a service so tailored to our situation,” adds Robin, “Lee was so flexible and responsive, and we would definitely recommend Gardiner Haskins – they were able to do things other companies couldn’t.”
